The Daily Express says Baleba will attract a winter market approach from United, with management desperate to find a midfield addition.
Along with Baleba, United see Conor Gallagher as an alternative and if nothing can be struck with Brighton, they will move for the Atletico Madrid midfielder.
Gallagher is in his second season at Atletico after his move from Chelsea.
