According to The Sun, Ruben Amorim’s side were offered the opportunity to sign Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid on transfer deadline day.
The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford throughout the summer transfer window but ultimately remained in the Spanish capital.
It’s understood that United turned down the chance to sign Gallagher because they were prioritising a deal for a new goalkeeper and were happy with their current midfield options.
United went on to sign Senne Lammens from Belgian side Royal Antwerp as a replacement for Andre Onana for a reported fee of around £25 million.
