Earlier this year, Rodri has revealed that he will put a decision over his future on hold until after the 2026 World Cup as he represents one of the tournament’s favourites Spain who drew their opening clash.
"I understand, it's part of the game. I haven't even thought about my future. My focus is on (the) World Cup. I’m under contract at Man City." This season has been one of injury struggles for City's key man.
The 29-year-old is under contract at the Etihad Stadium for a further year but as City enter a new era without legendary manager Pep Guardiola, the club seem keen to keep hold of the Ballon d’Or winner before the new campaign begins.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on Sunday morning that City had offered Rodri fresh terms a number of months ago, but he is yet to sign on the dotted line.
“Manchester City offered new deal to Rodri few months ago but there’s still no agreement at this stage.
“Deal on stand-by now, still long time to decide as current agreement set to expire in June 2027.
“Rodri could leave as free agent in one year.”
Rodri should make a choice on whether he stays of goes once the World Cup is over but the longer he waits, the more reports suggest that he may depart for free next summer as the likes of Real Madrid continue to be linked with him.
