Former Chelsea star Florent Malouda has revealed that Cole Palmer may be struggling after the departure of Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson will return to Chelsea this summer after Bayern Munich decided they will not make his loan move to the German champions permanent.

He has tallied 10 goals and four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions but the Bundesliga side are not keen on his £56M release clause.

Since his departure, Chelsea have rushed through two managers and now find themselves without a head coach and 8th in the Premier League.

Speaking to Snabbare, Malouda suggested that Cole Palmer and the rest of the squad may be missing Jackson who was key to their success under former manager Enzo Maresca.

“Cole Palmer might be missing Nicolas Jackson at Chelsea. Obviously with Joao Pedro, they also have a good connection. We saw it when João Pedro first arrived.

“I believe that he needs to express his talent to have a good link-up with the number nine. He needs to be able to dictate the play and to have a kind of target player to allow him to arrive in the box at the right time.

“It's very dependent on that because all the opponents now are able to build a system to manage the way he is a threat to them and that's the challenge for him.

“That's the next step. I hope he will be able to fix that problem, to maybe bring some variation in his game, maybe with some free-kicks, or another way to score or impact the game, so he can get more freedom up front.”

Jackson has five goals and two assists in his last seven games and may come as a welcome return to the Chelsea side who are lacking firepower in attack.
