Mainoo famously expressed frustration with his lack of first-team opportunities during the first half of the season under former manager Ruben Amorim who denied him a move away to Napoli last summer.
The England international consistently fell out with Amorim and rarely featured for the side as reports claimed he was set for a move away in the winter window.
Amorim’s replacement Michael Carrick gave Mainoo his first start of the season in the Manchester derby on Saturday as the Red Devils won 2–0 thanks to goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu.
This was a show of faith in the young playmaker who, as reported by the Daily Mail, is set to stay at the club in a shocking revelation after months of speculation surrounding where his next destination may be.
Talks have helped Mainoo establish a place in the side
Reports claim that Carrick’s faith in Mainoo after talks between the pair have helped fuse his place in the side for the second half of the season which will please United fans who did not support kicking him out of the side under Amorim.
Carrick spoke on Mainoo after the win over Manchester City, describing what his role could be for the rest of the campaign.
"He's more of an attacker. I don't see him as a holding midfielder. He's that line above where he needs a little bit more freedom.
"He can defend the higher line, but I think that bit deeper, around the centre–backs, that's a bit of a different thing completely. I see him playing that little bit higher and creating.
"I think he's got a massive future. I really like him, he just needs that patience and a little bit of a break again."
