Leeds United boss Daniel Farke conceded a slight disappointment after their 4-1 rout of Crystal Palace on Saturday night.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck twice at Elland Road, with Ethan Ampadu and Anton Stach also getting in the scoresheet. However, Farke was unhappy with Justin Devenny's successful penalty late on for Palace.

“I was really desperate also in the last minutes to have the first clean sheet since a while,” Farke told the media at full-time.

“But nevertheless, many compliments to the boys. Amazing win we have played the so far best away team in this league, they had before in their eight away games and 16 points.

“I would say well deserved to win the game in this manner. Of course, three points are so important for the goal difference today, this result, but also the manner was really good and, yeah, a great night and a big win for us.

“The problem is that no one really found a solution how to open such a compact Crystal Palace side in their home games against them, or nearly no one.

“And they were always so, so compact and they are so dangerous with their quick attacks and their quick transition moments. We played today a back five against the ball. We played four in formation with the ball.

“I know I asked a lot from my players. So overall, I am very, very happy with many, many aspects today. It was such a complicated game but right now we have a bit more time to relax and also to recover because we need a good plan also for the next game.”

Top player for us

On Calvert-Lewin's double, Farke admits the striker's influence is fast becoming crucial.

“Very pleased,” Farke added. “So he is, of course, a top player for us. I have spoken about how highly I rate him and value him from the beginning, from the first day he walked through the door.

“Of course, the numbers don’t lie. He is in red hot form at the moment. For me, like I mentioned, one of the best English strikers in this league.

“He has proved it before whenever he was fit and he has shown his quality. And right now he is on a path to be really also a top, top class player for Leeds United.”
