Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris insists defeat at Aston Villa was undeserved.

“We showed character and resilience once again, and some quality at times, but we also felt the character and strength of Aston Villa today, and they created many chances," said Le Bris.

“We didn’t start well in the first half or the second half. It is always difficult, and Aston Villa tried to manage the game.

“It was a bit flat, and at 3–1 we were able to change the dynamic. We didn’t give up, and Trai Hume did well.

“We are learning because we are still a newly promoted side in this league. It was a tough challenge. We played with our identity until the end.

“We took risks, and we had the ability to change the dynamic of the game.

“We take each game step by step, and while it isn’t a point today, we are still there.”
