Jurgen Klopp has offered some advice to new Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Klopp left Anfield two years ago on the back of reviving Liverpool as domestic force and a European champion once again under his leadership.

In eight and and half seasons on Merseyside, Klopp led Liverpool to their first-ever Premier League title in 2020 and a first UEFA Champions League crown in 19 years back in 2019.

The former Borussia Dortmund chief was replaced by Arne Slot, who stormed to an EPL title in his first campaign in charge, but the wheels quickly came off for the Dutchman last season with the majority of fans openly calling for him to be sacked.

A fifth-place finish was enough to secure Champions League football for 2026/27, but the club opted for a change, despite Slot being previously assured over his future.

The chance to land Iraola on his departure from a first-ever European qualification at Bournemouth was viewed as 'too good to miss' and the Basque coach is now in place.

"I'm not close enough to judge that (what happened with Slot's exit). I was super happy they won the league a year before and I have no idea what was wrong last season," Klopp told ESPN.

"Nobody was happy with the season. That was obvious, but they still qualified for the Champions League and that's a great success. Now you can go again with a new manager in Andoni Iraola, who is a great coach as well, just like Arne Slot is, but it has to click.

"It has to work together for a long time, and for that, you need luck. Last season is now over and they can look to the future."

Klopp did enjoy a strong start as Liverpool boss, with just one defeat in his first 11 games across all competitions, and Slot started with only one defeat in his first 28 outings - so the pressure is on for Iraola.
