Newcastle United have reportedly highlighted Johan Manzambi as the perfect name to replace Sandro Tonali at St. James' Park this summer.

Bazoumana Touré has already arrived on Tyneside as part of Eddie Howe's attacking update following Anthony Gordon's move to Barcelona before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

However, Tonali's £100M transfer move to Tottenham has opened up a hole in Howe's midfield, with captain Bruno Guimaraes also linked with a move away, after the Magpies missed out on European qualification at the end of 2025/26.

Contact has already been made with Manzambi's camp over a move to the Premier League after another strong season at Freiburg - including a key role in their run to the UEFA Europa League final back in May.

Manzambi racked up seven goals and seven assists across all competitions as an ever-present in Julian Schuster's team and his stock keeps on rising.

The 20-year-old signed a contract extension last summer and Freiburg will push for around £50M based on the Tonali windfall Newcastle have already landed - with several clubs across Europe expected to rival Howe for his signature - if he cannot sort a deal before the start of preseason later this month.

Manzambi is expected to miss Switzerland's last 16 clash with Colombia due to injury, but if they progress to the quarter finals, any possible move will be postponed until the tournament ends.

As the Swiss power on, Manzambi has been a breakout star at the World Cup, becoming the youngest player to reach five goal involvements (three goals and two assists) at the tournament since records began.
