Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe took questions on Sandro Tonali's future and the fitness of summer signing Yoane Wissa at this morning's Premier League media conference.

Ahead of Sunday's trip to Brentford, Howe addressed the comments of star midfielder Tonali, after the Italy international admitted Newcastle was likely not to be the last club of his career.

Howe said: "I'm always comfortable with honest. None of us can make massive statements about future because football is so unpredictable.

"Sandro has been very honest but he is happy and enjoying his football. He loves it here in Newcastle and is happy in the team he is in and happy in the environment and it is our job to maintain that so he can carry on his positive start to the season."

Wissa update

Meanwhile, Howe delivered positive news on Wisse's recovery from knee injury. The signing from Brentford is yet to make his debut for the Magpies.

But his manager said, "Injuries are part and parcel of football but the only frustration is we haven't seen him because he wasn't with us when he picked up. It's been difficult because the transfer was done with the thinking of helping us in the here and now. But we have to make sure when he's back he's ready to hit the ground running.

"Knee is feeling good, it is more a case of looking at his fitness and sharpness. He is in a good place to kick on but we need to get him in a position to be robust enough to help the team. I am sure he will be worth the wait."

Victory over Athletic Bilbao

The positive for Newcastle is they travel to London on the back of their Champions League win against Athletic Bilbao, which saw Dan Burn score with another wonder header.

Howe said, "It gets better when I see it and I had the privilege of being right behind it. It's special moments for Dan and he appreciates those things more than anyone at the club because of his association as a fan. I don't know where he stores those headers because he doesn't produce them on a regular basis!"

And on the exciting progress of centre-forward Nick Woltemade, Howe admits the German is improving game-after-game.

He added, "I think we are in the process of doing that. Nick is one player in the machine and we are finding our best way to use him but I am very happy with Nick, his application and his ability to carry out instructions."

Brentford trip

Howe, meanwhile, admits Newcastle travel to Brentford needing to improve their away form.

He said, "I think everyone shares that frustration. We know what we are capable of and West Ham was a long way short of that. We needed to make sure we did respond on Wednesday. It was a strong, disciplined performance but the only way to answer our critics about our performances away from home is to deliver.

"It was a tough day (last season), a tough game. I think Brentford, I know we have had some good results there, is always a tough place to go. It is going to be a tough examination of our ability to defend but I see it as a great opportunity to show we can deliver away from home. We know our away form hasn't been good enough."
