Manchester United defender Harry Maguire refused to pay a bribe to end his assault case.

Maguire has seen his conviction upheld after his retrial in Greece finally went ahead on Wednesday as he was handed a 15-month suspended sentence.

This came after he was found guilty of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery whilst on holiday with his family back in August 2020.

The British defender has always maintained his innocence and reports state he is expected to launch an appeal to the Greek Supreme Court in the coming weeks.

As many still react to the verdict, the Daily Mail report that the England star refused to pay a £43,500 bribe to Greek officials to make his brawl case “go away”.

The report states that Maguire was apparently insistent on clearing his name and would not dip into his wallet to make the case disappear.

A source told the newspaper that Maguire would rather be found guilty than pay a bribe, and he intends to never pay a single penny.

Claims have also been made that a documentary will be made about the events with lawyers claiming that two men injected his sister, Daisy, with an unknown substance that caused her to faint.
