The 27-year-old striker joined Arsenal in a deal worth up to £64M on a five-year contract, which has pleased fans who were crying out for a striker. It has been decided that the Swedish international will wear number 14 for Arsenal and follow in the footsteps of legendary forward Thierry Henry, which is a huge honour for the forward.
Gyokeres scored 97 goals in just 101 games for Sporting Lisbon, making him one of the most exciting goalscorers in Europe and manager Mikel Arteta will be hoping that he can continue that form in the Premier League.
Now, in a video posted on Arsenal's social media, Gyokeres can be seen reading out a letter from captain Odegaard and the striker jokingly interrupts what has been written to state exactly what he needs at his new club to succeed.
"If there's anything you need or any way I can help, just give me a shout," part of Odegaard's message read. "Some assists, please, would be nice," Gyokeres interjected.
He then continued reading the letter which read: "Looking forward to working together and sharing success in the season ahead. All the best, Martin."
Gyokeres then said: "Very nice. The only thing I need is some assists."
The move takes Arsenal's summer spending up to about £204m, following the arrivals of Martin Zubimendi, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke and Cristhian Mosquera. The addition of Gyokeres is a huge move from Arteta and if his teammates such as Odegaard can help him find the back of the net then the title race certainly won’t be out of reach for the Gunners.
