The eight years of Evangelos Marinakis' ownership have been very eventful as the Greek shipping billionaire continues to steal the limelight away from the team with his various antics and behaviour, unlike the majority of club owners.
In January, Marinakis converted £72m worth of loans into shares. It came a few weeks after he did the same with £82m worth of loans. Now, the club have released a statement after he has once again helped with club debt by converting his shares into 17 billion 1p shares.
“The shares were issued and allotted pursuant to the capitalisation of a debt in the sum of £17,000,000 due to the acquirer of the shares. The shares were converted at nominal value and no premium was attached to the shares.”
Marinakis has converted large amounts of debt into equity over the last eight years since he took over the club as he continues his commitment to leading the side. The Reds will compete in Europe in 2025/26 for the first time in three decades partly thanks to his continued investment which only helps boost the side further up the table and to more success.
