Confirmation that Maresca was taking over from Pep Guardiola was delivered on Monday afternoon in a piece of news that has been in the works for months.
The Blues have received £17M from Man City after a settlement was reached between the two clubs in a move that will only add pressure on to the Italian who will have the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Maresca replaces one of the most successful managers of all time in Pep Guardiola, a coach who won it all with the club.
Speaking to BOYLE Sports, Malouda revealed that taking the City job will be a very tough challenge which almost seems impossible.
"Enzo Maresca is walking into an impossible job (at Man City), but at the same time it's a great opportunity. You have a club with a recent winning history, which is great. They need to update a lot of things, so although it’s not a blank page, you can come up with something different.
"This is almost what's expected. You can see that some players are leaving and the club will support him with his ideas. He can put his insight into it, but he will be assessed on his ability to manage the club, not only the first team.
"I won't compare him to Pep, but maybe the next Mikel Arteta, who can allow Man City to stay at the top for the next decade."
Maresca has signed a three-year contract with City and whether he can be a suitable replacement for Guardiola will be known over the coming months.
