It’s been reported that Alonso, 44, has agreed a four-year deal to become the new Chelsea manager, succeeding Liam Rosenior.
According to The Athletic, Alonso has been appointed as Chelsea’s new ‘manager’ rather than the ‘head coach’ title given to his predecessors.
Alonso will have a lot more of a say in regards to recruitment than the likes of Rosenior and Enzo Maresca before him and will suggest names of potential signings as well as positions.
It’s understood that Alonso’s standing in the game has seen Chelsea make adjustments to their structure and transfer strategy.
The Spaniard has been tasked with building a ‘culture’ at the club and will officially take over on July 1st.
