Everton fought back from 2-0 down at halftime to claw the score back to 2-1, but despite a strong finish they couldn't find a final equaliser.
Dewsbury-Hall said: “I feel we gave them too much respect. Yes, they’re champions but we’re trying to do something this year as well.
“At half-time we said we need to do something to change it, we need to make the game interesting or else it’s going to get away from us. The second half I thought was a lot better, it was more aggressive and intense and I thought they struggled in the second half, we were in the final third a lot and created chances but we just couldn’t get that final ball to go in.
“I feel like we were just going half and half. We weren’t really solidified as we were trying to press high and they were getting in behind the pockets.
“When you go, you have to go fully or stay. In the second half, we went and people might say that’s a risk but we say that’s being aggressive and on the front foot, so there’s something there to look back on and see what we can do better.”
