Everton boss David Moyes has hit out at the speculation that swirled around Graham Potter before he was axed by West Ham on Saturday and replaced by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno debuts as West Ham manager tonight against Everton and in the lead-up Moyes took aim at the rumours around Potter.

He said: “You have phone-ins where people are ringing up to say someone should lose their job. I don’t think that is right. Again: I’m coming at this from the world we are living in.

“We talk about people’s mental health but why would you not consider managers being spoken about like that? Why is it okay you talk about them? If we did it in any other industry, you would be in trouble.”

Moyes added: “If you come into this industry, you are expected to live with it and deal with it… I think it seems to be okay that we talk about it, whether it is the media or television, when you are talking about a man losing his job.”

On his old club, the Scot also said:  “I think sometimes at football clubs everyone thinks the grass can always be greener but I had a great time at West Ham. I really did.

“A hugely enjoyable time. I got on great with everybody but, you know, if people want to keep changing all the time I don’t know if that is the best way for clubs.”
