BBC Sport says Nuno is now closing on being named Potter's successor.
The Portuguese is available after his surprise sacking by Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
The Hammers took only three points from their opening five league games this season under Potter.
It's suggested Nuno could be appointed manager inside the next 24 hours and be in the dugout for Monday night's clash with Everton.
