Isak proved himself as one of the world’s best strikers last term, grabbing 23 goals and six assists in the Premier League for Newcastle United, who picked up their first trophy in 70 years in what was an iconic season under manager Eddie Howe.
Earlier this summer, Ekitike arrived from Eintracht Frankfurt in July for a fee of around £90M, and the young striker has made a fine start to life at the club with three goals in five games in Liverpool’s perfect start to the season.
The 23-year-old’s starting place will now come under threat however with the arrival of Isak who will compete with him for the striker spot. However, the Frenchman has revealed that it is not a huge concern to him and he expects to fight for his spot against world-class players.
“When you play for the best teams, you inevitably expect to be competing with the best players and Isak is among them”.
“Seeing him arrive is a pleasure. It's going to be tough competition, but I'm going to work hard to be good and perform at my best”.
The Reds face Burnley once the international break is over and despite Isak’s arrival, Ekitike is expected to start as manager Arne Slot attempt to adapt Isak to the side which may take a few weeks of training.
