Marcus Edwards was delighted with his double in Burnley's preseason draw against Shrewsbury Town.

Edwards signed permanently with the Clarets in May from Sporting CP after a six month loan.

The attacking midfielder told the club's website: “I think it was a good day for us, still getting fit, still working in the new formations, new patterns, new pressing, so it’s good that we’re all playing together. It was a good run out today.

"That's what pre-season is about to know what your players can do, playing with the whole squad who are going to be a big part of the season. We’ve signed some good players and as a team we’re very welcoming. They’ve integrated already.”

This is Edwards' first preseason with Burnley.

He added, “I always like pre-season, getting back into the routine of things, it’s hard training, every day you’ve got to push yourself.

"Pre-season is always nice. It’s different to doing it in Portugal, in England it’s actually harder! But getting pushed to my limits, it’s good.

“I’m very excited. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League so you can’t not be excited, the whole team is excited. We’re just ready to go.”
