Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Fulham boss Marco Silva to take the Fulham job.

Alonso has emerged as the front-runner for the Chelsea job, with the Spaniard is “open to the possibility” according to several reports.

The former Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen boss has been out of work since being let go by the Spanish giants and could join the West London side in the coming weeks ahead of the new campaign.

However, as interest grows in the former Liverpool midfielder, Agbonlahor has told Chelsea to make a move for a current Premier League manager instead.

“Marco Silva is the perfect character that these big-time Charlies at Chelsea need,’ he told talkSPORT.

“The way they’ve got rid of Rosenior, they’ll do it to a soft manager that comes in. They need a hard-hitting manager.

“Marco Silva doesn’t take any nonsense. We’ve seen him on the sidelines, similar to Antonio Conte’s sort of style.

“He will go into that football club Chelsea in pre-season, sort them out. (He will work out) who’s on side, who’s going to work hard, who’s going to follow runners, who’s going to run?

“So to see that from Chelsea, they need a hard manager like Marco Silva going in there.”

Chelsea have entered into discussions with Alonso's representatives as they aim to bring him in before the summer transfer window to allow him time to construct a team before the season begins.

Silva, Alonso and Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola have all been linked with the side who managers may be wary of considering how little patience they have with head coaches.
