The Swedish international completed his move from Sporting CP in a deal worth €63.5M plus €10M in add-ons last week as manager Mikel Arteta snapped up the striker who will bring a new edge to an Arsenal attack that has often looked toothless due to a lack of a true No.9.
Is Gyokeres ready?
Arsenal face Tottenham on Friday in the first North London derby outside of the United Kingdom, and Arteta faced questions from the media about whether fans will get to see Gyokeres in the flesh at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Hong Kong.
“He has only done today's session and yesterday very little.
“We are going to assess tonight where he is. If the medical staff are pleased with his condition it is possible."
Injury updates
Arsenal's new number 14 should feature in the game even if he does not start the game, as Arteta hopes to integrate him into his squad and therefore his tactical style before the start of the season in just a few weeks time.
Arteta also spoke on Gabriel Magalhaes and Declan Rice are still working their way back from injury in what is a race against time before their first game back against Manchester United on the 17th of August.
“With the rest everybody is going to be ok apart from big Gabi who is still out and probably Riccy it's probably going to be a bit too early.”
Mosquera won't be rushed
Finally, new signing Cristhian Mosquera also featured in training but Arsenal remain cautious as whether to rush him back which could hinder his fitness.
“He needs to start to pick up the feelings again,” Arteta said.
“He played the U21 Euros, then he didn't really train with Valencia then that signing period was extended a little bit and the conditions here are really tough and there's a lot of information for him, a lot of physical demands that we put in.
“So we're going to have to manage him slowly.”
