The Brazil international, who turns 29 years old in November, has two years left to run on his contract that reports claimed earlier this month includes a £60M release clause.
Anthony Gordon has already joined Barcelona in a deal worth £70M as Newcastle lost one of their top players. Manager Eddie Howe will be desperate to hold on to the rest his squad despite the side failing to snatch European football last season.
Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham are also said to be preparing bids for Sandro Tonali as clubs raid a Newcastle in what is becoming a devastating summer transfer window.
Now, Guimaraes, who joined Eddie Howe’s side in 2022 from Lyon for an initial £35M, has been the subject of a move from the Gunners who were turned down immediately by Newcastle.
“Arsenal made verbal offer to sign Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. #AFC proposal through intermediaries below £60m - rejected + #NUFC insist sale of 28yo #Brazil int’l midfielder will not be entertained.”
Fabrizio Romano also reports that the “plan to try open talks for £55m was immediately rejected by Newcastle” as the Magpies refuse to let the Brazilian playmaker leave.
Guimaraes made 41 appearances across all competitions for Newcastle last season, scoring nine goals and added eight assists.
Arsenal clearly see him as their main transfer target, but the Premier League champions may have to up their bid to bring him in.
