Cherki angered Arsenal players and fans during City's victory at Wembley with his antics.
But ahead of Sunday's trip to City, Arteta said: "No, I think every player has his way to express it and you have to respect that.
"It’s part of football, you are allowed to do it. You can react in the manner that you want but I think the player has to be respected because he's entitled to do those things."
On last season's "be humble" exchange with City striker Erling Haaland, Arteta again insisted there was no issue.
"If I have to talk about all the things that have been said on the pitch, I think we'll have some big meetings," Arteta said.
When it was put to him that the exchange seemed unusual, Arteta said: "No, not that much.
"Don't worry. The mics are coming in football, I don't know when. That's one of the nicest things that you can get told."
