Arsenal and Crystal Palace have submitted special requests to the Premier League following a Carabao Cup draw that has caused potential scheduling issues over the festive period.

Arsenal and Crystal Palace have been scheduled to play each other in their Carabao Cup quarter-final clash, just two days after crucial Premier League games.

Mikel Arteta’s side are due to play Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium that weekend on Sunday December 21, while Palace will face Leeds on the same day.

As a result, the two clubs have gone to the Premier League to bring those fixtures forward in order to help with the physical toll on their players.

Both Oliver Glasner and Arteta have spoken out about the fixture congestion, with the Austrian recently saying: "I can't believe this won't be fixed.

"It would be irresponsible for the players and we have a responsibility for them and we have to look after their welfare, but not just ours at the club.

“I was really upset when I heard it for the first time yesterday. I couldn't even believe that they were considering this.

“We are trying the same thing that Arsenal are trying, to move our Leeds game forward to Saturday (December 20), so we don't have two days between these games."

Speaking ahead of his side’s 3-0 Champions League win over Slavia Prague, Arteta said: "Hopefully they will move our Premier League match, because to play two days later doesn't make any sense.

“So now we decide the date (for the Carabao Cup match) I am sure they will change the Premier League (match) as well."
