Alonso parted ways with Real Madrid earlier last week after what was a disappointing spell in La Liga after the highs of Bayer Leverkusen where he led his side to an unbeaten Bundesliga campaign.
After winning the Premier League title in his first season at Anfield, Slot has come under similar pressure as Alonso and reports state that he has to start to turn this Liverpool side around or face the chopping block within the next month.
Liverpool was briefly booed at the final whistle at Anfield last weekend as they struggled against relegation side Burnley, leading to more frustration amongst fans.
Alonso, a former midfielder for the Reds has been linked to replace Slot who joked this week that the Spaniard has been in touch.
"Yes, he called me and said 'What do you think about the team because I am going to take over in six months, can you tell me a little bit more?' Or maybe earlier, maybe he takes over tomorrow.
"That is the weirdest question I ever got."
Slot responds to the boos
Slot also spoke on the boos from the home crowd who expected more against Burnley, especially after spending around £400M in the summer transfer window.
“And the boos, maybe I heard a few, but it wasn’t as if it was a lot. I think it’s also completely normal if you have a draw at home against Burnley, that no one is happy about that.
“But I think the moment the people went home, they probably, when emotions calmed down, they probably thought like, ‘it’s been a while’.
“In the one-and-a-half years that I’m at Liverpool, we’ve never created so many chances against the low block as we did in that game.
“So maybe it was a little bit more positive than the results showed. But we’re in a result business, I’m aware of that.”
