The 38-year-old is still going strong with Argentina and Inter Miami as he continues to help both sides to glory. Messi, now the Golden Boot winner in the MLS recently penned an extension through 2028, prior to guiding his side to its first MLS Cup win.
However, as he comes to the end of his career, reports have speculated about whether fans will see him on the touchline as a manager in what would be an interesting development.
However, speaking at the American Business Forum this week, the veteran revealed that he is more interested in following in Inter Miami owner David Beckham’s footsteps.
"I like to start looking at what could come next. I like the business world; I want to keep learning. I’m just getting started with it. I’ve always been 100 per cent dedicated to my profession, but I know that something else is coming - another world - and little by little, I’m getting involved."
"I don't see myself as a coach. I like the idea of being a manager, but I'd prefer to be an owner. I'd like to have my own club, start from the bottom, and make it grow. To be able to give the kids the opportunity to develop and achieve something important. If I had to choose, that's what would appeal to me most."
Messi has already launched a professional Uruguayan fourth division team, Deportivo LSM, alongside his long-time friend Luis Suarez and has launched the Messi Cup, a youth under-16 tournament featuring eight academy teams from around the globe.
His business ventures are clearly his biggest focus and when he eventually retires he is likely to see be seen alongside Beckham, managing Miami, who are only growing bigger and bigger.
