The two sides were set to play at Soldier Field on Thursday (July 16), a game in which new superstar Lewandowski was expected to make his debut.

Per The Athletic, it’s now been postponed as Smoke from Canadian wildfires has made Chicago’s Air Quality Index hit the two worst levels: very unhealthy to hazardous.

The city of Chicago has also closed all public beaches and pools, while the Chicago Park District cancelled all outdoor activities that couldn’t be moved inside.

Lewandowski, 37, joined Chicago Fire as a free agent after Barcelona decided against renewing his contract.

He would have had the chance to face off against former Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Muller, who has been with Vancouver Whitecaps since last August.

Chicago Fire have confirmed that the meeting between the two sides is now expected to be played on October 6th.
