Former AS Monaco assistant Damien Perrinelle has been appointed as the new manager of Ligue 2 side Red Star.

The 42-year-old had previously coached Monaco’s academy team before joining the first-team staff under Adi Hutter, where he remained an important member of Sebastien Pocognoli’s backroom team last season.

Despite the Ligue 1 team’s desire to keep him, the Frenchman opted to pursue his ambition of becoming a senior head coach, with his departure confirmed in May.

Speaking to RMC Sport, Perrinelle had expressed interest in managing a Ligue 2 club, and the opportunity soon arose after Gregory Poirier left Red Star following the club’s run to the Ligue 1 promotion/relegation play-offs.

His appointment was confirmed on Monday, although contract details were not disclosed.
