According to multiple French media reports, A 13-year-old member of Lyon's Under 13 team was arrested on suspicion of murder.
It’s understood Authorities detained the boy on Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 16-year-old Chems Z in the Lyon suburb of Caluire-et-Cuire on Sunday night.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., while accompanied by two friends, the victim was confronted by a knife-wielding suspect who allegedly issued threats before stabbing him in the chest as the group attempted to flee.
Despite emergency treatment at hospital, the teenager died later that night.
Bastien Joint, Mayor of Caluire-et-Cuire, posted on X: “Based on the initial findings, this tragedy reminds us of an unbearable reality: a simple argument can now spiral into horror and cost a child her life. This is not the shadow of trafficking or a criminal network: it is a personal dispute that has degenerated.
"My thoughts go first to the family and friends of the young man whose life was stolen last night, who are plunged into unspeakable pain. Losing a child is the worst ordeal, and nothing can lessen it.”
