Sevilla fans are understood to be excited by the idea of a local hero returning in such a capacity following a turbulent few years.
Speaking at an event in Seville on Tuesday, the former Spain captain suggested that a resolution could be expected soon.
"I think there will be some news in a few months, or even weeks, and we hope it will be the news we're all hoping for,” he said.
"Everything is going well."
