Now playing at home in Argentina for Rosario Central, Di Maria effectively declared Atletico a graveyard for Argentine players.
He said on Radio de la Red: "It's kind of strange there, that club (Atlético de Madrid) is kind of strange.
"Like, when things are going well, they're going well. Then, from one moment to the next, I think they shut down their players."
Regarding the lack of continuity of some Argentine players (Julián Álvarez, Thiago Almada or Nahuel Molina) at Atlético, Di Maria also said: "They start to disappear, it happens to most of the guys who were there, there are few who have a string of starters, they never get out and that's it.
"The great thing about national teams is that when they put on the light blue and white jersey, they become different players, they transform and play incredibly well, they enjoy being on the national team and it makes me very happy."
