While the Barcelona players were thanking their fans for their support, the Brazilian walked towards the Atlético stands repeating "out" and accompanying his words with several gestures, seemingly alluding to Atlético's expected elimination in the next round of the Champions League.

The day after the match,  Raphinha sought to downplay the controversy and apologised in a comment in a social media post.

The attacker justified his reaction by stating that it all happened in a moment of high tension: “It was an act committed in a moment of tension, in response to a fan who was disrespecting me.”

He also expressed regret for his behavior: “I apologise for my gesture, which does not reflect my values or my character.”
