Antony was sent off for Real Betis in their La Liga clash with Girona on Sunday after the former Manchester United forward kicked Girona's Joel Roca in the face.
The Brazilian attempted an ambitious attempt at a bicycle kick that did not come off, an incident that was reviewed and punished following a VAR check that lasted just minutes.
Now, Antony has apologized to fans and admitted that he was only trying to help his side out.
"Very sad about the red card! All I wanted was to help my team win!".
"A completely unintentional play. Sorry to all the fans who have always supported me!"
Across 38 appearances for Betis, Antony has scored 15 goals and provided seven assists as he continues to thrive away from United after being cast out in what was deemed to the club’s “bomb squad”.
Antony has produced a good start to the season with four goals and an assist in eight league games. However, the red card means that the forward will miss some of Betis’ next games, including the clash against Sevilla on the 30th of November.
