Trump celebrated his 80th and America’s 250th birthday on Sunday with a UFC event on the White House lawn as he opted to attend the event rather than the USA’s opening 4-1 win over Paraguay.
At the Club World Cup last summer, Trump stayed next to Chelsea captain Reece James as he lifted the trophy in what was an awkward moment that went viral as the US president left players such as Cole Palmer dumbfounded.
Palmer, who scored twice in the final, said afterwards: "I knew he was going to be here but I didn't know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy. I was a bit confused, yes."
Now, as per Ben Jacobs, Trump is set to do the same at the World Cup final as plans are in place for him to lift the trophy alongside the team that goes all the way.
“Exclusive: Donald Trump will be allowed to lift the World Cup trophy with the winning team, as he did at the Club World Cup.
“Trump will present the 2026 champions with the trophy on July 19 at MetLife Stadium alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino.”
The Mirror report that Mexican and Canadian officials will be invited to appear at the closing ceremony which will see Trump controversially lift the trophy despite fans calling for the decision to overturned.
White House sources have not ruled out him going to several games during the tournament but Trump is yet to attend a game. The US next face Australia on Friday the 19th.
