Manchester City's decision to stage the FA Youth Cup final against United at their Joie Stadium training complex rather than Etihad Stadium on May 14th has sparked controversy.
The two clubs' academy sides will meet in the first Manchester derby Youth Cup final showdown in 40 years in what is a game that will attract a huge crowd.
The Red Devils were allocated only 968 tickets which sold out in a minute after they went on sale at 10am on Thursday morning as per The Sun and as tension grows ahead of the clash, Carrick admits he has been let down by the stadium for the clash.
Carrick feels let down by FA Youth Cup venue
United’s 2022 triumph over Nottingham Forest was played in front of a record crowd of 67,492 at Old Trafford. This time the venue holds just 7,000.
"I'm disappointed, to be honest. I think getting to the Youth Cup final always seems to have been a thing where you play at the main stadium and it's such a showcase event for players of that age group. So we're disappointed.
"I think I've had some amazing memories, some of my best memories, in that competition of playing with your close mates and it's a shame that it hasn't worked out for whatever reason. But listen, for the boys to go there, it's a fantastic game, it's a great opportunity.
"I'm sure the game itself will be good, and I'm looking forward to going and supporting the boys."
Speaking further on the record-breaking 67K+ attendance 4 years ago, Carrick reveals it was a special night.
"I was at the Forest game; it was a special night to see the stadium full for a game like that. It was what you'd hoped for, but it is what it is," Carrick noted. "So we're disappointed. I think I've had some amazing memories, some of my best memories, in that competition of playing with your close mates, and it's a shame that it hasn't worked out for whatever reason."
