Villa won 2-1 on the night thanks to goals from Evann Guessand and Youri Tieleman. Flavius Daniliuc had brought the scores level before Tielemans' goal.
Magnin said afterwards: "They are a really confident team, they’re currently doing very well in the Premier League, so we knew we would be pushed to our limits and I think caused them problems.
"Unfortunately, we did not get any points, so we are quite frustrated.
"We’ve proved tonight that when we play football, we’re capable of making big teams doubt themselves. We were very good in possession, building from the back, so that was very positive."
Veteran FCB midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri also stated: "Our objective was to push them, but in the end you could see why Aston Villa are doing very well in the last couple of years."
