Feyenoord had accepted a club record €40m offer from the Saudi Pro League club for the defender.
The Slovakia defender had already said goodbye to his teammates and staff before flying to Austria to join the Saudi club's preseason. But something went spectacularly wrong.
Upon arriving in Saalfelden, where Jorge Jesus' team is training, Hancko was turned away from the team hotel. According to Feyenoord spokesman Raymond Salomon , the player "was no longer welcome and was not expected at training. This is unheard of and scandalous".
The Eredivisie club had already reached a financial agreement with the Saudis, and Hancko had also given his approval, but Al Nassr had not yet returned the signed contract, instead making a sudden last-minute U-turn that surprised and shocked everyone.
"The player was treated with total disrespect; it's an unprecedented situation. We express our solidarity," Salomon added.
According to Dutch press sources, several changes in the Saudi club's top management may have contributed to the deal breaking down, most notably the possible departure of technical director Fernando Hierro. For now, Hancko is returning to training with Feyenoord.
