The Frenchman could make his return from injury as early as October 2026, meaning he not only misses the rest of the season but also the World Cup this summer.

Slot, speaking ahead of the Crystal Palace clash, revealed how the striker is doing as he rests and recovers since picking up the knock.

“The surgery went well but in such a long rehab process there are so many steps that need to be made. Experts will tell you this will take multiple months and then it depends on the steps.

“We don't know yet but the first and most important step is surgery went well. Recovery is going to take a long time, but he will be back stronger like all the others who have been out a long time.Leoni has become a beast.”

Liverpool will have to rely on Alexander Isak in attack this weekend against the Eagles, a side who have gone four unbeaten in the Premier League since March's narrow defeat to Manchester United

Fans are yet to see the best of the former Newcastle striker this season but he should start on Saturday as he continues to get back into form.
