Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed Senne Lammens to be the club's No.1 goalkeeper for the next decade.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper earned the man of the match award against Sunderland as he made several excellent saves to keep a clean sheet and bail out his teammates in defence.

Sunderland dominated all areas and the Belgian international was widely praised for his performance which is one of the best he has had in a United shirt.

Lammens has made 30 appearances in all competitions and helped the club back to the Champions League as he proved to be an excellent replacement for Andre Onana

Now, speaking on his podcast, Ferdinand revealed that he believes Lammens is a bright spark for United long term future.

"The calmness that he's brought, the amount of saves that he's made and the difference-making that he's made with this team, I don't think you can put a number on that. He's been superb and he's young. That's what I love about him, he's young, he's still going to be getting more experiences, and he's only going to get better from now on.

"I don't think it matters how good or bad he plays, I think he'll be the same level - very level-headed, and he won't get out of his pram too much about anything. I think he's one for the next 10 years at Manchester United, he's going to be the No.1. He's someone again, got a definite great foundation to start building from what he's shown this season."

Lammens said United need to push on next season after feeling “proud” of his debut campaign. The club will aim for the title next season as ambitions grow.

“We’ve been growing and now it’s the next step. Next season is going to be a big one. So everyone is going to step up again.

“Because this season was okay, but it’s not our end goal. So we have to keep building on this and try to get better.”
