Liverpool have reached a verbal agreement for the transfer of Rennes centre-back Jeremy Jacquet worth up to £60M as he prepares to make the move to Merseyside in the summer.
The France Under-21 international is tipped to be one of the next best defenders on the planet and manager Arne Slot and his team wasted no time in snapping him up after missing out on Marc Guehi.
The 20 year old hasn't played for France and he hasn't played in the Champions League or Europa League but was a top target for Liverpool as they look towards the future.
Now, speaking on the move, Murphy has revealed that he is scratching his head as he looks towards the club’s defensive options.
"It's odd, especially because they are so reliant on the Van Dijk-Konate partnership.
"I wouldn't find it as odd if they are only fighting for the Premier League, because they're out of it, but they've got a great chance in the Champions League, and they don't really have any cover because Gomez is never fit."
Jacquet is set for his medical with Liverpool on Monday afternoon in what is a quickly progressing story. However, the transfer window closes at 7pm and the Reds must move fast if they are to secure the summer move.
Jacquet is reportedly set to sign a five-year deal until the summer of 2031 with the option of a further year.
