Five English teams finished in the top eight of the Champions League to reach the knockouts as the Premier League looked down on the rest of Europe in the league phase.
Arsenal cruised into the last 16 of the Champions League with a perfect record as manager Mikel Arteta led his side to wins over the likes of Bayern Munich and last year’s finalists Inter Milan.
Despite such an excellent start, the Gunners, as reported by The Mirror have earned less than their English rivals.
Arsenal topped the performance part of the earnings list, receiving £35.1m, with Liverpool earning £31m and City earning £28.5m.
However, Swiss Ramble calculates City were the top-earning English club in this section, receiving £39m compared to Liverpool’s £37.2m and Arsenal’s £32m.
The report stated: “My calculations suggest that five clubs have already received more than €90m from the Champions League, namely Bayern Munich €100m, Manchester City €97m, Liverpool €97m, Arsenal €96m and Chelsea €92m.”
Liverpool finished third while City were eighth, the lowest position afforded an automatic place in the last 16 after beating Galatasaray on the final matchday.
This will spark conversation amongst Arsenal fans who may believe they deserve to earn more after such a perfect start.
