Mikel Arteta will become the second-youngest manager to lead Arsenal in a major European final when the Gunners step out to play the Champions League final on May 30.

Bukayo Saka’s goal propelled the Gunners to a 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in Tuesday’s semi-final second leg played at the Emirates Stadium, to qualify 2-1 on aggregate.

With that, the Spaniard went next to Terry Neil at 44 years and 65 days on the day of this season’s Champions League final.

Neil remains the youngest to do so when he led the London side in the final of the 1980 Cup Winners’ Cup aged 38 years and six days. Unfortunately, Arsenal lost that fixture to Valencia on penalties at the Heysel Stadium, Brussels after the scores ended 0-0 after extra time.

The Gunners will face defending champions Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in the final, and should the English side win, Arteta will become the second manager to lead Arsenal to European glory after George Graham’s feat in 1994 as well as the youngest.
