Ter Stegen only made one appearance for Barcelona in the first half of last season before joining Girona on loan where he picked up a hamstring injury in his second appearances, restricting him to just 2 appearances.
As per reports, Ajax want the German international to undergo a comprehensive medical examination in Amsterdam as they are concerned about his physical state ahead of the proposed move.
Ter Stegen has suffered repeated injuries in recent years but did not make the Germany squad which will give him a slight boost in the examination where his body should be fresh and ready to go.
Fabrizio Romano reported on the move on Friday, suggesting that the deal is almost over the line.
“Marc André ter Stegen to Ajax, here we go! Deal agreed in principle with Barça and player’s camp.
“Ter Stegen joins on loan until the end of June 2027 with majority of wages covered by Ajax.”
Ajax will reportedly have the option to sign Ter Stegen on a permanent basis during next summer's transfer window, providing he stays fit.
The 34 year old has made 423 appearances for Barcelona, winning seven La Liga titles, a Champions League, and the Copa del Rey six times during his time in Spain.
