The veteran goalkeeper missed Bayern’s final game of 2025 against Heidenheim due to a muscle injury, but is due to return later this month as he continues to impress in front of goal.
Neuer's contract runs until June 2026, at the end of the current season, and speculation has grown as to whether he will run down the deal or sign a new contract as he prepares to turn 40.
The goalkeeper announced his retirement from the national team in August 2024 but has stated this week that he is open to staying with Bayern for the foreseeable future despite him coming into the twilight of his career.
“I’m positively inclined towards it. But for now, I want to wait and see how the next few months go. I want to try to show good performances. Then, towards the end of March or April, a decision will be made. By then, I’ll know how many games I’ve played and how my body feels,” Neuer said during a fan club visit yesterday, and added:
“I’ll also be turning 40, so you have to see whether you can make that decision with full conviction to continue. The exchange with the club is very good – then we’ll see whether it continues or not.”
Neuer has spent 14 seasons with the Bavarian side and has won two Champions League titles, two Club World Cups, 12 Bundesliga titles, six German Cups and eight German Super Cups. He is a club legend and is likely to stay to help battle for more trophies next season.
