The 23-year-old was incredibly distressed, pointing to his Achilles tendon as Liverpool’s medical team assessed his injury.
Ekitike was eventually stretchered off, and it now looks like he will miss the rest of the Liverpool’s season, as well as potentially the World Cup.
Speaking on Amazon Prime after the game, Slot provided an update on just how bad the injury is.
"Not too good. We could all see it didn't look good. Let's wait and see what it will be. In the second half he went home and I haven't seen him yet,” he said.
"As it seems to be, losing a player is something we have had many times this season but it is especially hard for him because you never want to be injured, especially at this time of the season."
