The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Atletico Madrid throughout the summer and even spoke of his desire to one day play in Spain.
Romero ultimately remained in North London and put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with the club after which he was named club captain.
He has now hit back at those that suggested he wanted to leave Tottenham ahead of the Champions League clash with Villareal on Tuesday (September 16).
Speaking to the press, he said: "I never said I wanted to leave the club. Nothing came from me in that effect. It is important what the manager and president say.
“I am very happy here, it is like a family. I like the manager. I like the way we work, the way we train.
“Always things can improve but I think everyone here at all levels are taking the right steps to improve. I am very happy here."
