Brentford are in talks with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk over the possibility of hosting their Champions League fixtures at the Gtech Community Stadium next season

Shakhtar are set to enter the 2026-27 Champions League league phase directly after originally being scheduled for the third qualifying round, but gaining automatic entry due to Paris Saint-Germain’s qualification as domestic champions.

Because of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, Shakhtar have been unable to play home matches in their own stadium and have instead staged European fixtures in neutral venues, including Ljubljana in Slovenia and Krakow in Poland.

BBC Sport claimed that discussions are ongoing between both clubs regarding a potential agreement to use Brentford’s west London ground.

"Shakhtar is currently negotiating with several venues in the United Kingdom and Germany in order to secure a host stadium for its Uefa Champions League matches next season. We will not comment on the process until a decision is announced in the near future," a Shakhtar official told BBC.

The Gtech Community Stadium meets UEFA requirements for Champions League football, and approval from local authorities is expected to be the final hurdle.

Brentford have previously rented out their stadium for other events, viewing it as an important revenue source.
