Nouri, now 29, was one of Ajax’s most impressive young talents before his collapse during a pre-season friendly with Werder Bremen in July 2017.
The former Ajax midfielder suffered severe permanent brain damage following a cardiac arrhythmia, with the club going on to pay the Nouri family €7.85 million, cover his medical costs, and retire his number 34 shirt.
Saibari, who has just joined Bayern Munich for a reported fee of €50 million, including add-ons, has chosen to pay tribute to Nouri by picking 34 as his new number.
Speaking to the club website, Saibari speaks of his friendship with Nouri and why he decided to pay tribute.
“He survived but hasn’t been able to move unaided since then,” says Saibari: “I’m supporting him by wearing the 34, it was his last number.”
