Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has backed Bayern Munich's Michael Olise to win the Ballon d'Or.

The Frenchman has been among Europe's most impressive performers this campaign, netting 20 goals and providing 29 assists across 47 appearances for Bayern under manager Vincent Kompany.

Olise has already won the Bundesliga and could still lift the Champions League and World Cup over the coming months as pundits predict that he will be high in the rankings for the Ballon d’Or.

Can Olise claim the Ballon d'Or?

However, the winger will need to beat the best to be the best this year as Petit spoke to Andy’s Bet Club about how Olise may have a solid chance at claiming the iconic award.

“What can I say about Harry Kane? To be honest with you, he scored a great goal, he showed great composure, he was very clinical in front of the goal, but he was very, very important as well. When he was dropping into the midfield, he did some recovery work in defence, and I was very impressed.

“He shows so much serenity and calm when he gets the ball at his feet, and that reflects on his team-mates all the time. This guy is very important, honestly. He's very important for the link-up play up front, but also for the team spirit, the experience he has, his personality and character.

“If they go until the end and they win the Champions League, he's in a very, very good position to win the Ballon d'Or. Olise is a candidate for them as well.

“Can you imagine if France wins and Olise puts on a masterclass during the tournament? That could make a huge difference as well. I think there are a few very good players on the planet right now, so it's quite difficult to say who is the best.”

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed his club would even resist a world-record offer for Olise this summer despite interest from the likes of Liverpool who clearly know that the France star is set to become one of the best player in the world.
